GREEN DICTIONARY

sustainability
1. ability to be sustained or maintained
2. capacity to maintain a certain process or state indefinitely
3. ability to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs

Daly’s Rules:
1. Renewable resources must be used no faster than the rate at which they regenerate.
2. Nonrenewable resources must be used no faster than renewable substitutes for them can be put into place.
3. Pollution and wastes must be emitted no faster than natural systems can absorb them, recycle them, or render them harmless.

carbon footprint

1. The total amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) produced to support human activities, directly or indirectly.
2. The total amount of CO2 attributable to the actions of an individual (which includes emissions through their energy use, as well as other unforeseen emissions) over a period of one year.
